Goleta, California has the nickname of “The Goodland”—and it’s not difficult to see why when you visit the Goleta Pier. North of Santa Barbara in a quieter, more local atmosphere, the Goleta Pier offers stunning views of the ocean, the Santa Ynez Mountains, and the Channel Islands in the distance. A visit to Goleta Beach and its 1,500-foot pier is perfect for all ages, and is a great place to hang out all year round.
Fishing on Goleta Pier
Fishing at Goleta Pier is a year-round endeavor with fishing times between 8 a.m. and sunset. The Goleta Pier is also a place for boat owners to launch their vessels. Boat launches occur on weekends and holidays as long as a park ranger is in attendance. To make arrangements call (805) 967-1300 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The boat-launching fee is $15.00 and is just $9.00 for seniors.
If you plan on fishing—get ready for a good haul. There are more than 50 species of fish that can be found while fishing at Goleta Pier, including barred surfperch, guitarfish, thornback rays, and halibut. Though fishing is open to the public on the pier without a license, if you plan to do any fishing on the shore or elsewhere, be sure to obtain your fishing license from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Goleta Pier: A Perfect Way to Take in the Day
Goleta Pier is a fun way to spend the day with family and friends. The 1,500-foot pier provides for a good stroll and has some of the most magnificent views on the Central Coast. Not only can you see the Santa Ynez Mountains and the endless stretch of the Pacific Ocean, but you can also see the buildings on the campus of the University of California at Santa Barbara, which was established in 1944.
Spend the day observing the fishermen, the crashing of the waves, and the beachgoers as they enjoy their days in beautiful Goleta. Be sure to bring some binoculars because you are sure to see something spectacular out in the distance.
If you plan to spend the day on the pier, you’ll have to walk through beautiful Goleta Beach Park. Goleta Beach has free parking—and plenty of it—and surf and SUP rentals for those who want to get out on the water. Of course, your beach day won’t be complete without snacks, which you can find at the snack shop near the pier. The snack shop has a variety of sodas and things to munch on while you enjoy the nice views.
If you need the dining experience on the Goleta Beach, you can stop in to Beachside, which is just right off the Goleta Pier. We have extensive lunch, happy hour, and dinner menus. Stop in for a cocktail, a quick appetizer, or stay for a while longer and enjoy a wide array of fresh seafood, pasta, steaks, or our famous fish and chips.
